The Orange Tree - Congleton
Our Award Winning Design for The Orange Tree Congleton...
The Orange Tree in Congleton is a prime example of exceptional hospitality design, earning IMD an esteemed Northern Design Award for Best Restaurant and Dining Project above £750,000 in November 2024. This iconic Georgian, Grade II listed building was transformed into a stunning venue, blending historical restoration with contemporary elegance.
Acquired by Parogon Group as a sister site to their Orange Tree in Stoke, the concept focused on restoring the ‘Georgian Glamour’ synonymous with its late 18th-century origins. Previously a pub, the building had suffered from years of neglect, losing much of its original grandeur. IMD undertook a comprehensive restoration to breathe new life into the property, including an extended kitchen, reinstated architectural details such as the elliptical staircase, ceiling roses, and intricate mouldings.
Large sash windows flood the interiors with natural light, allowing the design team to embrace bold, rich paint colours and a mix of warm and cool tones in the furnishings, achieving a harmonious balance. The result is a sophisticated yet vibrant atmosphere, offering an unforgettable dining experience in a setting that is both historically respectful and visually striking.
Originally built as Mortlake House for the Johnson family of Congleton in the late 18th century, the building carries a rich history. John Bulkeley Johnson, a prominent local banker, alderman, and philanthropist, once owned the property as his country residence. With five acres of surrounding meadow, it stood as a symbol of elegance and prestige.
IMD’s restaurant interior design expertly reflects this heritage while aligning with Parogon Group’s vision of creating extraordinary hospitality spaces. This project highlights our commitment to crafting inspiring bar and restaurant interior designs, making The Orange Tree a true landmark in Congleton.
