A Mediterranean Escape: Stylishly Understated Restaurant Design

IMD were entrusted with the design and project management for the fit out of Willow Telford, a new venue within the Parogon Group’s impressive portfolio of restaurants across Staffordshire, Cheshire, and Shropshire.

The project brief focused on transforming an empty Food & Beverage (formerly Asian) unit into a stylish Mediterranean-inspired dining destination. Beginning on-site in July 2024, the fit-out was completed within a tight timeframe, opening to the public in mid-September 2024.

The design of Willow Telford reflects the essence of Mediterranean living—a seamless blend of holiday nostalgia and understated elegance. By day, the space feels light and airy, while in the evening, it transitions into a cosy, softly lit atmosphere.

Key interior elements include:

    •    Whitewashed walls and beach-washed timbers that evoke a coastal charm.

    •    Rich terracotta and cool ocean blues, seen in fabrics, paints, and accents, bringing warmth and tranquillity.

    •    Mediterranean planting, macramé details, and quirky, eclectic artwork for a layered and inviting aesthetic.

    •    Patterned tiles, trellis features, and rattan lighting fixtures to create depth and texture.

    •    An olive tree, set in a large woven willow basket, greeting diners with a Mediterranean welcome.

The layout caters to various dining and social occasions. A central walkway leads to a raised area featuring a mix of poseur-height tables for casual drinks, cosy booths, fixed seating, and open spaces ideal for both intimate dinners and larger party bookings. The focal point of the design is the impressive arch wall features, adorned with bottles and adding to the unique character of the space.
